Sarah Elizabeth Lund
Professor emerita
About
Lund has conducted numerous fieldworks in Peru over a course of the past 25 years. More recently she has also worked with a Norwegian American community in Western Minnesota on issues of migration, ethnicity and history.
She is currently working on the following projects:
- "Lessons on Power and Consciousness in a Nascent Democracy: Andean non-literates and the Use of Peruvian Identity Papers". Here she focuses on sets of bureaucratic rules and the dynamic interface of literacy and non-literacy to examine personal identity and features of functioning democracy in Peru.
- "Autobiography and auto/ethnography". An earlier project with Drude von der Fehr continues in an ongoing examination of how anthropology and literary studies have cross over effects on each other’s disciplines. Their methods and reflexivity create similar dilemmas but require different solutions.
- "Landscapes of Difference; Studies in Contemporary Latin American Societies and Cultures” A joint proposal with Marit Melhuus, Christian Krohn-Hansen and Arnd Schneider. Lund’s contribution, entitled "Urban Landscapes on the Margins of the Possible; Education and Biography in Peru's Southern Highlands", is concerned with the relationship of urbanization and education in crafting national consciousness.
- ”Fragmentary Connections; Rural Enclave Identities and Local History Projects", is a four part project in western Minnesota in which houses, inheritance, and Native American others form the comparativeaxis in contemporary constructions of community.
