Faglige interesser

  • Jeg har bred interesse for de fleste utviklingspykolgiske områder, både normal og avvikende, typisk og atypisk. Min forskning omfatter ulike utviklingsområder, med spesiell vekt på utvikling av kommunikasjon og språk. Den omfatter barn med normal utvikling, så vel som barn med lærehemning, bevegelseshemning, døvhet, blindhet, Rett-syndrom, Tourette-syndrom, autisme og Asperger-syndrom. Jeg er også opptatt av habilitering og pedagogisk-psykologisk rådgiving for barn med utviklingsmessige vansker. Jeg har arbeidet spesielt med barn som ikke klarer å tilegne seg talespråk på vanlig måte og derfor trenger en ikke-vokal kommunikasjonform som kan utfylle eller erstatte talen.

  • Jeg samarbeider med forskere i mange land, og leder for tiden et tverrfaglig internasjonalt prosjekt med 16 land: ” Becoming an aided communicator: Aided language skills in children aged 5-15 years – a multi-site and cross-cultural investigation” om språkutvikling hos barn som bruker kommunikasjonshjelpemidler. Resultatene fra dette prosjektet vil bidra med mye ny kunnskap om hjulpet kommunikasjon og språk generelt, og gi grunnlag for å reise nye spørsmål om normal og atypisk språkutvikling.

  • Jeg leder et tverrfaglig prosjekt ”Effekt av intensiv habilitering basert på Doman-programmene (The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential og Family Hope Center)” på Barnenevrologisk seksjon på Oslo Universitetssykehus, Rikshospitalet.
