Social cognition training in schizophrenia (completed)

About the project

The main aim of this study is to investigate if a social cognition training program leads to improvement in social cognition, neurocognition and functional capacity.

Objectives

The study is a randomized controlled trial with a two-group pretest-posttest between-participants design. Persons with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder are randomly assigned to receive either treatment as usual or a social cognitive training program. Both groups undergo testing with relevant instruments before, immediately after, and three months after the training.

Outcomes

Research aims are to elucidate whether performance is enhanced on social cognitive tests, neuropsychological tests and functional capacity measures after completion of the training, and, if an improvement exists, is present at 3-month follow-up.
