My research project builds on the Matter of the First Friendship Study, that examines risk- and resilience factors for developmental psychopathology. Specifically, we want to know if outdoor time in natural settings may support young childrens cognitive development and protect against hyperactivity and inattention symptoms.
This is a multi-informant longitudinal study that collected data from children, teachers and parents anually for four years. We are now planning a ten year follow up and an experiment designed to reveal the mechanisms that mediate the link between mental health and natural outdoor contexts.
