Research projects

2012 →: Project leader for the NFR supported (FRIMED) research project A longitudinal population study of infant vulnerability and plasticity from pregnancy to18 months. The Norwegian short name is Little in Norway or Liten i Norge, (LIN-study).

2010 – 2011: Associate project leader for the LiN-study.

2012 →: Member of the research group for the NFR-supported project School - and teenage follow-up of neurocognitive and psychosocial functioning of children born to mothers with opiate and polydrug abuse.

Since 2008 →: Local project leader at the Regional Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (in collaboration with professor Walhovd at the Center for the study of human cognition) for the NFR supported follow up-study at 4,5 years of the same children in the research project Neurocognitive development in children born to mothers with substance abuse and psychiatric disorders: biological–social interaction effects

Since 2007 →: Principal Investigator in the ADBB research group. A validity study of the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB) in well-baby clinics in Trondheim Municipality.

2004 – 2011: Project leader for another NFR supported research project Children prenatally exposed to drugs: Regulational deficits and interaction difficulties during the first years of living.

1995 – 2001: Project leader together with Kari Slinning for the NFR supported research project A prospective, longitudinally study of children prenatally exposed to drugs.

Appointments

2008 – 2012: President of the Nordic Association for Infant Mental Health (Nordisk Forening for Spedbarns Utvikling, NFSU), the Nordic affiliation of World Association for Infant Mental Health (WAIMH).

2001 – 2012: Chair of the international referee-panel “Alcohol and other drugs” for the World Association for Infant mental Health world congresses (WAIMH).

2009 – Member of the International Advisory Board for the Infant Mental Health Journal (IMHJ).

2008 – Chair of the executive board for the project National registry for infants referred to the treatment in child psychiatry.

National and international cooperation

In the Little in Norway (LiN)-study I collaborate closely with Professor emeritus Lars Smith. We further have national collaboration with researchers at each of the Regional Centers of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (RBUPs in West Norway, Mid-Norway and North Norway). Professor Kjell Morten Stormark, serve as regional project leader in Bergen, while Associate Professor Turid Suzanne Berg-Nielsen serve as regional project leader in Trondheim. We also collaborate with researchers at the National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES) in Bergen. The international partners in the LiN-study are Professor Richie Poulton, The Dunedin School of Medicine, New Zealand; Professor Arnold Sameroff, Center for Developmental and Mental Health, University of Michigan: Professor Antoine Guedeney, Hôpital Bichat Claude Benard, University Denis Diderot (Paris VII), Paris; Dr. David Willis, Artz Center for Developmental Health, Portland, OR and Clinical Associate Professor Anne Mette Skovgaard, Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Centre Glostrup, Institute of Health Sciences, University Hospital of Copenhagen.

In relation to the project Neurocognitive development in children born to mothers with substance abuse and psychiatric disorders: biological–social interaction effects, I collaborate with Professor Kristine B.Walhovd, project leader, Center for the Study of Human Cognition, Department of Psychology, Kari Slinning, Dr. psychol, R-BUP East & South, and Astrid Bjørnebekk, Post doc. I also collaborate with Kristine B.Walhovd, Kari Slinning, Egil Nygaard, post doc, and Anders Fjell, on the project School - and teenage follow-up of neurocognitive and psychosocial functioning of children born to mothers with opiate and polydrug abuse.
