Power and Democracy 1998-2003

The research project "Power and Democracy" started in 1998 and will be finished in 2003. It's main theme is the conditions for popular political participation in Norway, and changes in these conditions as a result of internationalization, development of new technology, environmental challenges, privatization, decentralization, gender equality, the mass media, the multi cultural society and the information society.

The research group was appointed by the Government of Norway in March 1998. It's leader is Professor Øyvind Østerud at Department of Political Science, University of Oslo. The other members are: Professor Fredrik Engelstad, leader of the Institute for Social Research, Oslo; Professor Siri Meyer, Center for European Culture Studies, University of Bergen; Professor Per Selle, Department of Comparative Politics, University of Bergen, and Professor Hege Skjeie, Department of Political Science, University of Oslo.
