STV4347B - Linkages between Politics and Society in Developing Countries spring 2009

Please answer both of the following questions:

1. Present the argument that it is necessary to 'sequence democracy' to
really favour democracy and peace, and use the course literature to discuss
for and against the same argument.

2. A central argument in the course is that meaningful (or substantial)
democracy calls for popular capacity to promote and use the democratic
institutions. Present and discuss this argument, including the dynamics
of the most fundamental capacities.
