Bakgrunn

Anton Steen ble cand. polit. i 1976. Vit. ass. og forskningsstipendiat (NAVF) 1977-1980. Research Fellow ved University of Essex, U.K. i 1979. Universitetsstipendiat 1980-1983. Han ble dr. philos. i 1984. Førsteamanuensis Norges Kommunal og Sosialhøgskole 1984 – 1985. Han ble ansatt ved Institutt for statsvitenskap som førsteamanuensis i 1985 og som professor fra 1997.

Leder av ERASMUS-programmet ved UiO, 1992-1994.

Co-leder av Prosjekt Baltikum, 1990-1997.

Styremedlem ved ISV,  2012-15.
