In this article Willy Pedersen and Anders Bakken analyze substance use patterns among adolescents in different parts of Oslo. Although those in the city's wealthy west have a much higher level of substance use than those in the poorer east, they use substances in a manner not indicative of large health-related risk - the opposite is true for those in the latter group.

Tore Wig and Andreas Forø Tollefsen have written this article published in Political Geography on the location of violence in internal conflicts in Africa. They ask whether there is a correlation between the quality of local political institutions and the occurrence of conflict-related violence.

They show how the russ - graduating Norwegian high-school students - transform old buses into rolling private nightclubs. Here they can party, partially free of the normal constraints of commercial nightlife and adult control

In ‘binge drinking’ cultures, there is a strong association between alcohol consumption and violence. Yet several studies suggest that this link is cultural and contextual. Willy Pedersen, Heith Copes and Sveinung Sandberg explore the role of alcohol in incidents of violence in nightlife settings.

In this article published in European Societies, Anne Lise Ellingsæter and Ann-Zofie Duvander examine what the introduction of a familistic family policy measure like cash for childcare benefit means in the Nordic welfare states. The analysis displays diverse national policy processes and policy outputs and wide variation in parents’ responses to this policy incentive.

I tidsskriftet Advances in Life Course Research har Torkild H. Lyngstad og Torbjørn Skardhamar publisert en artikkel om familienettverk, kriminalitet og familiedanning. Den inngår i en voksende samfunnsvitenskapelig litteratur om betydningen av utvidede familienettverk som sosiologiske utfall. Lyngstad og Skardahamar studerer i artikkelen betydningen av kriminalitet i slike nettverk, og hvilken rolle det spiller for egen familieetablering.

Sammen med Jukka Savolainen og Kjersti N. Aase har Torbjørn Skardhamar og Torkild Hovde Lyngstad publisert en artikkel i tidsskriftet Crime & Justice. Artikkelen gir en oppdatert kunnskapsstatus for livsløpsforskningens hovedfunn, nemlig at ekteskaps- og samlivsinngåelse fører til reduksjon i kriminalitet og avslutning på kriminelle karrierer. Kunnskapen på dette feltet er mye mindre solid enn hva man skulle tro fra enkelte omtaler.
