Social inequality currently gets a lot of attention, but sociologists appear less visible in discussions about inequality than what one would expect.

Has this something to do with the understanding of class or the use of the class concept in research? Can the sociological research on this topic be improved?

The classes and elites research seminar invites two prominent scholars of class analysis, Kim Weeden and Janne O. Jonsson, to address these questions based on the theoretical framework of micro classes.

At sosioøkonomisk status går i arv fra foreldre til barn er et velkjent samfunnsvitenskapelig funn. Hvilken betydning flere generasjoner har er ikke like klart. Forsker Jørgen Heibø Modalsli presenterer et arbeid på AKS-seminaret om dette, hvor han har brukt historiske registerdata fra Norge over nesten 150 år. Modalsli er ansatt i Statistisk sentralbyrås forskningsavdeling og har i flere år arbeidet med historiske perspektiver på økonomisk ulikhet.

Martin Zebracki – Reconfiguring the City through Digital Practices: User-Created Contents and Conflicts in Public Art Engagements.

Digital (mobile) technologies pose new challenges to understanding the city and making sense of virtual urban life. Zebracki will present a study on digitally mediated engagement with the urban public, and discuss the conceptual and methodological implications to wider research on the digital urban condition.
