Ideally, political debates provide politicians with equal opportunities for airing their positions. However, debates are rarely ideal. Rather than allowing everyone an equal opportunity, they often become events in which prior inequalities e.g., gender, age, and status are re-enacted. The question is whether, and how, such accompanying parameters are made relevant or brought about in actual debate situations in Nordic political debates. More specifically, how do political actors present themselves and their message in televised election campain debate in Denmark, Finland, and Sweden.
