Conference venue
The conference will take place at the Georg Sverdrups Building at the University of Oslo, Norway. Georg Sverdrup is at Blindern - the University's main campus, and is also the University library.
Transportation and accommodation
Participants are required to make their own accommodation and travel arrangements. Please think of the environment and choose green travel options when possible.
Transport from Gardermoen Airport to Downtown Oslo
There are several options for getting from the Oslo Airport - also called Gardermoen - to downtown Oslo and your hotel from the airport:
The Airport Express Train:
Price: NOK 180/USD 21/Euro 19 (Students below the age of 31 travel at half price with valid student card)
Departures every 10 minutes Monday-Friday between 06.10am - 10.30pm, and Sundays 12.10pm-11.10pm, Saturdays and other times every 20 minutes. The train arrives at Oslo Central Station and the National Theater in downtown Oslo in 22-28 minutes. You need to buy the ticket before you enter the train. There are easily accessible machines that take credit cards at the stations and you can issue your own ticket, which is recommended as the company charges 30 NOK for purchasing it from the personnel.
Anker Hotel: Those staying at Anker Hotel can get off at Oslo Central Station, which is within a 5 minutes walking distance. From Central Station, walk past Oslo City up Nygata to Storgata, take a right and follow Storgata for about 5 minutes. Anker Hotel is on the left side after crossing Hausmannsgate.
Bristol Hotel: The closest stop is the National Theater, follow Karl Johans gate for two blocks, take a left at Rosenkrantz gate, then left again, and you will see the hotel across the street.
Cochs Pensjonat: The closest stop is the National Theater. Walk up to the Royal Castle and follow the pad through the park on the right hand side. When you reach Parkveien, you can find Cochs to the right at the left hand side of the street.
Scandic Holberg: The closest stop is the National Theater. There's a big street between the train station and the Royal Castle called 162 (it's the yellow street on the map). Follow this for five minutes in the North-East direction, until you reach the tram lines in Tullins gate. There you can follow the tram lines up Tullin's gate (to your left) for four minutes, and you will find Scandic Holberg in front of you where the street separates into two other streets. The walk should be no more than nine minutes from the train station.
Thon Hotel Gyldenløve: The closest stop is the National Theater. Follow the same route as to Cochs, but continue up Hegdehaugsveien for about 5 minutes, finding the hotel on the left side of the street. Or take the subway one stop westward to Majorstua. Follow Bogstadveien for 5 minutes and find the hotel on the right side of the street.
The Airport Coach (Flybussen) (link)
Price: Adult single trip NOK 180 / Adult return ticket NOK 275 (valid for 1 month) (Student single trip NOK 100 with valid student card)
The Airport Coach leaves every 20 minutes from outside the arrival area. Tickets can be bought when entering the bus, and credit cards are accepted. The travel time is 53 minutes. This bus will stop several places on the way to downtown Oslo.
Anker Hotel: For those staying at Anker Hotel, get off at the Bus terminal. Walk up to Oslo City, then, walk past Oslo City up to Storgata, take a right and follow Storgata for about 5 minutes. Anker Hotel is on the left side after crossing Hausmannsgate.
Bristol Hotel: For those staying at Bristol, get off at Prof. Aschougs plass, the hotel is right up the street on the left side.
Cochs Pensjonat: For those staying at Cochs Pensjonat, you can get off at Radisson BLU Scandinavia, which is within a 10 minutes’ walking distance along grounds of the Royal Castle. When you reach Parkveien, you can find Cochs to the right at the left hand side of the street.
Scandic Holberg: Those staying at Scandi Holberg can also get off at Radisson BLU Scandinavia, which will leave you almost at the doorstep of your hotel. The bus trip takes 50 minutes.
Thon Hotel Gyldenløve:Thon Hotel Gyldenløve guests can get off at Radisson BLU Scandinavia, pass Cochs Pensjonat and continue 5 minutes up Hegdehaugsveien, finding the hotel on the left side of the street.
Transport from the Hotels and City Centre to the Conference Venue, University of Oslo
For those staying at Bristol Hotel and Cochs Pensjonat, it is easiest to take the subway from the National Theater. For those staying at Anker Hotel the closest subway station is Oslo Central Station. For those staying at Thon Hotel Gyldenløve the closest station is Majorstua (a five minute walk up Bogstadveien, the station is by the crossroad). University Campus is by the Blindern Station westward. You can take subway number 6 (Sognsvann), 4 and 6 (Ringen), and 3 (Storo). Get off at Blindern, and walk past 7-Eleven and up Blindernveien, when you reach the hill top, the University Campus and the University Library, where the conference is held, is directly ahead. The building is called Georg Sverdrups Hus.
From Cochs Pensjonat, trams 17 and 18 leave every few minutes from the Høgskolen/Dalsbergstien stop (250 meter from Cochs Pensjonat) to the University at Blindern. From Bristol hotell and Park Inn, take tram 17 or 18 from Tullinløkka, and from Scandic Holberg take fram 17 or 18 from Holberg. Make sure the trams are going to Rikshospitalet - then you're going in the right direction. From the tram stop at the University (Universitetet Blindern), walk four minutes down the campus and find the University Library, Georg Sverdrups Hus, with the characteristic window facade and black stone walls on the left.
