Torbjørn Skardhamar, who presented his doctoral thesis (in Norwegian) at the department in June of this year, has been awarded the 2010 ESC Young Criminologist Award. The prize is awarded by The European Society of Criminology.
The prize was awarded for the articles “Reconsidering the theory of adolescent-limited and life-course persistent offenders”, published in 2009 in the British Journal of Criminology, and “Distinguishing facts and artefacts in group-based modelling”, published in 2010 in Criminology.

The doctoral thesis of sociologist and researcher at Fafo (Institute for Labour and Social Research), Christer Hyggen has been presented on forskning.no. Christer will present his thesis in sociology at the University of Oslo on why some people receive social security payments while others do not, while some social security clients are dependent on the payments long-term and why others become self sufficient.

Who experiences separation? Which factors are most often associated with the dissolution of relationships? Torkild Hovde Lyngstad has published a review of research into the social, demographic, and economic factors that contribute to the dissolution of coresidential relationships in the journal Demographic Research. The article is a collaboration with Marika Jalovaara of the University of Helsinki, Finland.
