Norwegian Science Communication Prize to Alexander Cappelen

Alexander Cappelen, professor in economics at the Norwegian School of Economics and affiliated researcher at ESOP, has been awarded a Norwegian science communication prize, for his contribution to behavioral economics.

Cappelen’s initiatives and research has turned behavioral economics into a prioritized area which receives a lot of international attention, according to the jury.

Science Communication Prize

The Norwegian science communication prize called "Akademikerprisen" is awarded to an individual who stands out because of his or her contribution to academic freedom and research communication.

– Cappelen is a researcher who communicates his and others’ research results in an exemplary way, as a writer of chronicles, commenter, and articles, says the head of the jury Curt A. Lier.

Cappelen about the prize

Behavioral economics have introduced important insights about limited rationality and social motivation to economics. It’s a great honor to get a prize for my contribution to the development and communication of this research area, says Cappelen.

The Choice Lab and ESOP

Cappelen has contributed to the establishment of The Choice Lab, a research group at the Norwegian School of Economics. The Choice Lab collaborates with ESOP in a number of research areas such as development economics, globalization, social organization and inequality.

Together with Kalle Moene and other researchers Cappelen has among other things conducted an international fairness experiment to explore social preferences through interaction between people from rich and poor countries.
