Do firms maximize shareholder value? And should they? Is there a conflict between catering to shareholders’ interests on one hand and to the common good on the other? And if so, how should we go about to solve the conflict? Is corporate social responsibility simply to comply with laws and regulations, or is there more to it?

ESOP invites to a debate between a law professor and two economics professors to discuss these issues.

Beate Sjåfjell is Professor of Law at the University of Oslo. See the presentation here [PDF]

Karine Nyborg is Professor of economics at the University of Oslo. See the presentation here [PDF]

Kalle Moene is Professor of economics at the University of Oslo and leader of ESOP research centre.

The debate is in English, in order to make it possible for foreign students to follow it. The debate is open to anyone interested in the subject and no registration is necessary.

Pizza and soft drinks will be served before the debate.
