Library Services for Humanities and Social Sciences

The library for Humanities and Social Sciences is part of the University Library of Oslo – the largest research library in Norway. You can find the library on campus, in Georg Sverdrups hus.

Loaning books

In order to loan books you need to be in possession of a loan card. Students at UiO use their student card as a loan card.

Literature search

Oria is a tool that helps you find the book you are looking for. You can use this database to search for books and journals at most of the Norwegian College and University libraries.


You can also access scientific publications, such as dissertations, master thesis’s, articles and reports written at or published by the University via DUO - Digitale utgivelser ved UiO (Digital Publications at UiO).

Student adapted courses

The courses offered at the University Library equips you with skills in academic information search, the use of citing and references, as well as an ability to critically evaluate different information sources. You can find information on when these courses are held on the library’s web pages. Please see the Course catalogue (only in Norwegian) for further information.
