Application procedures for Oslo Summer School
Application procedures for Oslo Summer School have 3 parts:
2. A letter of recommendation (from your educational and/or research institution)
3. A statement of motivation / statement of purpose (max 1 page)
Note! Applying early is to your advantage! Those who applies early and with satisfying formal qualifications found to be in order, have the benefit of being offered a place in our courses before those applying later in the spring.
Target groups
The main target group is doctoral students with an interest in comparative social science. In addition, researchers, research scholars and MA students aiming at an advanced level are welcome to apply.
The priority regarding admission will always be on those doctoral students attached to any organized research training programme, and who are willing to write an essay in order to obtain ECTS credits.

Application deadline:
We do not operate with any exact deadline for applications. Once you have submitted the 3 required parts of the application documents, we will inform you whether we have a place available for you - or if any additional documentation is needed in order to process your application.
1. Online application form:
The Oslo Summer School require a completed online application form. When filling in the online application form, please be specific but short regarding academic interests and title of (any) current research project, as well as making sure you fill in your correct personal details, and particularly your correct e-mail address.
Please note, we do not operate with a paper version of the application form, we rely only on the online application form for registration. After you have filled in the application form online and pushed "Send form", you will within 3 to 6 days receive a confirmation that your application was received, and you will receive further instructions by e-mail.
2. Letter of recommendation in support of your application:
It is important that a letter of recommendation from your educational and/or research institution is sent to the Oslo Summer School to support your application. This letter may be written by your PhD supervisor or any other at your institution/workplace who is well informed about your academic research project and your academic background. The letter should state current academic degree(s) held, your research interests, any current research projects you are working on, as well as any other relevant information regarding your application.

A copy of the letter of recommendation may also be sent by e-mail to Tron Harald Torneby, or by fax + 47 22 85 48 25 upon agreement, but the original should be sent by postal mail to above mentioned address.
3. Statement of motivation / purpose:
In addition we require a statement of motivation, a brief note of 1/2 to 1 page were you describe briefly the following:
- Briefly describe your current research and/or study project.
- In what respect will your chosen PhD course(s) relate or apply to your current research and/or study project?
NOTE: The statement of motivation / purpose also serves as brief description of your research/study project, and will be distributed both to the lecturer as well as the fellow students in the class. You should write this statement as if you were writing to your fellow students in the course and for the lecturer. Prepare the text in ordinary plain text either in Word or Rtf-format [ not Pdf ], with 1,5 line spacing. Please do not use italics, emphasis or other formats that will make it difficult to combine these statement papers into a single document.
