Research education: The PhD programme

UiO's researcher education programme for social sciences is the largest in Norway. There are approximately 250 active PhD candidates at the Faculty of Social Sciences, of which approximately 100 are research fellows with the Faculty.

Application and Admission

There is no need to apply for admission to the PhD programme if you are a research fellow at the faculty. If your place of work is external to the faculty you will be required to apply for admission.

Completion

Information on submission of your thesis, assessment, disputation, trial lecture and conferral of doctoral degrees.

The 7 study plans

As a PhD candidate you are enrolled on the faculty's PhD. programme, and additionally to one of the seven departmental study plans. Most of the actual researcher education takes place within the latter. You can read more about the researcher education in the individual study plans (in Norwegian).
