This CREST video interview with Dr Tore Bjorgo (University of Oslo) was conducted at the 2016 Beliefs to Actions workshop. In the video interview, Dr Bjorgo talks about his work on right-wing extremism, ideology and desistance. Dr Bjorgo discusses when and why extremist beliefs are adopted and suggests that an individual may join an extremist group for non-ideological reasons and only adopt its ideas after becoming a member. He also summarises his findings on the push and pull factors that may cause an individual to remain part of, or leave, an extremist group. Finally, Dr Bjorgo discusses his new research project on the Soldiers of Odin, an anti-immigrant vigilante group operating in Norway.
