Academic Interests

Dr.  Marianne Riddervold's main areas of academic interest include theory development within the field of international relations and European integration, the Common Foreign and Security policy of the EU, EU Maritime security policies, and the EU as an international actor.

Background

Riddervold completed her PhD at the Department of Political Science in 2011. Her thesis title was 'A humanitarian common policy through deliberation? On the characteristics of EU foreign policy'.

Riddervold was in 2015-2016 a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley Institute of European Studies, California, USA, where she is also a Senior Fellow.

Projects

Riddervold is part of a research group at ARENA studying 'The External Dimension of European Political Order'. The overarching research questions of this field of study are: has EU foreign policy integration moved beyond intergovernmentalism? If so, how can we account for such a move?

In 2013, she was awarded a three-year post-doctoral fellowship grant (2014-2016) from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence to study EU maritime security policies, which was the main topic of her post-doc project.
