Marianne Riddervold
Academic Interests
Marianne Riddervold's main areas of academic interest include theory development within the field of international relations and European integration, the Common Foreign and Security policy of the EU and the EU as an international actor.
Background
Riddervold completed her PhD at the Department of Political Science in 2011. Her thesis title was 'A humanitarian common policy through deliberation? On the characteristics of EU foreign policy'.
Projects
Riddervold currently works on a post doc project on EU foreign policy integration. The main aim of the post doc project is to contribute to develop a possible account of integrative moves within the field by drawing on theoretical tools building on Habermas’ theory of communicative action. Riddervold addresses the key research questions of work-package 4 'The External Dimenson of European Political Order' of the EuroTrans project. First, has EU foreign policy integration moved beyond intergovernmentalism? Second, if so, how can we account for such a move?
On this basis, the research objectives of her current work is to:
1, spell out and operationalise an analytical framework that can be applied in studies of international negotiation processes such as EU foreign policy-making processes.
2, try out the relevance of the suggested framework by applying it to empirical cases of EU foreign policy.
