GLOBUS highlighted as an early success story

The European Commission calls GLOBUS an early success story in its interim evaluation of the Horizon 2020 programme.

Horizon 2020 is the EU's innovation and research programme that funds the ARENA-coordinated GLOBUS and thousands of other projects. Halfway through the programme's life, the European Commission has carried out an in-depth evaluation of it. Here GLOBUS is one of the projects that are highlighted as an early success story.

In an interview with the Norwegian Research Council, GLOBUS coordinator Helene Sjursen (ARENA) explained a defining aspect of the project: 'The EU's conception of a just solution does not necessarily coincide with the perspectives of non-European states. It is therefore especially important to cooperate with research institutions outside of Europe'.

Tom-Espen Møller of the Research Council of Norway maintained that the competition for grants under Horizon 2020 is ever increasing – but Norwegian projects are still well represented. 'Applications from Norway have a higher success rate than the average of countries participating in Horizon 2020', he said.

The findings of the interim evaluation will be used to adjust the course for the final years of the programme. More importantly, however, it will also inform the design of future EU Framework Programmes.
