Join an inspiring research environment

ARENA annually announces scholarships for students writing their MA thesis on EU-related topics. This year's application deadline is soon coming up. Our former students here tell you why you should apply.

The student scholarship gives ambitious students an opportunity to be part of a strong and internationally renowned research community. Last year’s ARENA students, Veronica Thun, Kjersti Varpe Nørgaard and Linn Tomasdotter strongly recommend the arrangement.

Under the supervision of ARENA researchers, they wrote their theses on welfare migration, EU citizenship and the Europeanisation of Norwegian innovation policy.

Source of inspiration

The students first and foremost highlight the academic benefits of interacting on a daily basis with staff at a research center like ARENA. They agree that being part of and learning from a pool of scholars was the most valuable experience in terms of increased information and inspiration.

‘It was truly inspiring to see how passionate ARENA researchers are about what they’re doing’, Kjersti says. She also appreciated the fact that others actually were concerned with the topic she wrote her thesis about.

‘The opportunity to have your thesis published in ARENA’s report series, so that its potential readership is broader, was also very appealing’, Veronica says.

No need to battle over working space

‘Having an office space with your own PC and abundant in shelves is obviously also a big advantage. There is no need to battle over the limited facilities in the working areas on campus’, she adds. The students moreover receive a grant of NOK 25,000.

To obtain a student scholarship you must be admitted to a relevant MA program and have a supervisor or co-supervisor at ARENA. It is recommended that you contact one of our researchers in advance to agree on supervision.
